2014 Board Elections Reminder

CFU members are reminded that applications for the 2014 board elections must be submitted by 4pm on Thursday 14th August.

Members will be aware that last year only two directors were appointed to fill the four vacancies that were available and during the year a number of directors have resigned. Our constitution requires that we have a minimum of six and not more than fourteen directors. The Board has made a decision to recruit eight new directors in addition to the two directors that will continue (Tony Durkin and Jim Keegan).

As members will know, following the disappointment of relegation at the end of last season, the club went through a difficult time before eventually being reinstated into the Conference Premier league. On the field preparations are now well in hand for the start of the new season and off the field a new management structure is in place with Tracey Wainwright having recently started as Operations Manager. Jon McCarthy has also taken up the post of Chief Executive Officer with the Community Trust in addition to his role as Assistant Team Manager. We continue to attract substantial sponsorship with Dave Riche leading the Business Development side of the club.

The new two board structure approved by the CFU has recently been implemented. So it’s been a time of change. We are in the process of finalising a 50 year lease for the stadium (including the car park) with Cheshire West and Chester Council and discussions continue regarding the provision of training facilities. In the meantime we are grateful to MBNA and the University of Chester for providing access to training facilities.

Since our establishment we have benefited from a wide range of skills and experience amongst both our volunteers and on our board. As we approach this year’s AGM, you now have the opportunity to contribute to the future success of Chester FC and City Fans United by applying for election to the board.

This year there is an exceptionally high number of directorships and we are hoping that we will be able to fill all of them. We would encourage those members who can make a contribution to the on-going development of our club to take the opportunity to bring their skills to the board room.

Elected members normally serve for a period of three years before standing down or being re-elected.  If you would like any more information or to discuss your application further with Tony Durkin please email : marion.needham@chesterfc.com

To be eligible to stand for election, you must be 18 years of age or over and be a current member of City Fans United. You must also pass the FA ‘Owners and Directors’ test, which is broadly similar to our requirements of board members:

• You must not be a disqualified director
• You must not be subject to a bankruptcy order or an have an Individual Voluntary arrangement in place with creditors
• You must not have any unspent criminal convictions

A nomination form is available to download should you wish to put yourself forward for one of the vacant board positions. You should complete the form and also obtain two nominations from other members of City Fans United. The nominations can take the form of a signature on your application form, or can be provided separately by email in support of your application if you are unable to obtain a physical signature from your sponsor.

You also have the opportunity to write a manifesto of not less than 400 words and up to a maximum of 1000 words. The manifesto should be used to sell the skills and expertise that you can bring to the board. It will also need to include a passport size photograph of yourself which can be circulated to members along with your manifesto. In the event that we have more applications than places available, an election will be held and members will use this information to elect candidates of their choice to the board.

Prior to election you will be required to complete the FA Owners’ & Directors’ Test, the requirements relating to this may be viewed at the following link:

Nominations with your manifesto should be returned to Marion Needham at the Swansway Chester Stadium, Bumpers Lane, Chester CH1 4LT and marked private and in confidence to arrive no later than 4pm on Thursday 14th August, 2014.

If you have any questions on the election process or on board membership in general please contact Marion Needham via email marion.needham@chesterfc.com
